The Tides Oyster Bar dramatically combines traditional terrazzo flooring with an artistic use of epoxy materials to create seamless, one-of-a-kind pieces of art.
Consisting of 1,950 square feet of three-color epoxy terrazzo flooring with aggregates, banquette surrounds, pre-cast base, hostess stand and counter tops, the Tides Oyster Bar delivers an artful example of how epoxy and terrazzo materials can be used to create an exceptional environment.
Appearing more like sculpture than building material, the project’s single-cast counter tops and banquette surrounds were created using three-dimensional plywood forms, carefully crafted to achieve the design’s extensive wave patterns, curves and radiuses. Using specialized equipment and a special resin that allowed extra “give and take” contraction, craftsmen then created a seamless expanse that is monolithically casted.
These distinctive forms aesthetically merge with the floor’s aggregate mixture of mother of pearl, recycled glass and seashells to create an upscale ambiance that leaves a lasting impression.
